The biggest challenge that a writer faces today is in creating quality work and then having it peer-reviewed and published. Poor language and presentation have a negative impact on not just the piece of writing but on the abilities of the writer in his sphere of work.
A study done by the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR) on 5,914 manuscripts, submitted for publishing over a two-year period from October 1, 2003 to September 30, 2005, found that one of the main reasons for the rejection of manuscripts was language. Countries where English is the primary language had noticeably lower rejection rates than countries in which the primary language is not English (rejection rate of 29.1% for the four English-speaking countries - United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia, versus 40.3% for the other countries).
Numerous studies ((Bowler, 2005; Gupta, Kaur, Sharma, Shah, & Choudry, 2006; and Ehara & Takahashi, 2008) have indicated that rejection rates due to poor writing or presentation styles is high.
